China Executes Couple for Shocking Murder of Toddlers That Stirred National Outrage - 180 Views
China has carried out the execution of a couple convicted of throwing two toddlers from a high-rise apartment window, a crime that sparked widespread outrage across the nation. The man and his girlfriend were found guilty of killing the children from his previous marriage by staging an intentional fall from a residential tower in Chongqing, aiming to start a new family.
The father, Zhang Bo, initiated an affair with Ye Chengchen, concealing his marital status and children. When Ye discovered the truth, Zhang divorced his wife. Ye considered Zhang’s two children as obstacles to their marriage and a burden on their future life together. According to the Supreme People’s Court, Ye pressured Zhang to kill the toddlers, threatening to end their relationship if he didn’t comply.
In November 2020, Zhang, in collusion with Ye, threw his two-year-old daughter and one-year-old son from his 15th-floor apartment, resulting in their tragic deaths. The couple was sentenced to death in December 2021.
The Supreme People’s Court denounced the couple’s crime as a serious challenge to legal and moral standards, describing their motive as extremely despicable and the means used as particularly cruel.
News of the execution garnered hundreds of millions of views on the Chinese social media platform Weibo, where it became a top trending topic. Many users expressed satisfaction with the punishment, emphasizing the gravity and heinous nature of the crime.
