Israeli Airstrike Hits Damascus Residential Area, Killing Two; Syrian State TV Reports

An Israeli airstrike targeted a residential building in Damascus’ Kafr Sousa district, resulting in two casualties, according to Syrian state media and a security source.

The strike, which occurred around 9:40 a.m. local time, left a number of other individuals wounded, as reported by a military source cited by Syrian state TV. The deceased are identified as civilians. Images released by Syrian state media displayed the charred side of a multi-storey building.

The security source commented that the attack “did not achieve its aims.” The Kafr Sousa district is known for hosting residential buildings, schools, and Iranian cultural centers.
Additionally, it is situated near a large, heavily-guarded complex used by security agencies. This area had previously been targeted in an Israeli attack in February 2023, resulting in the loss of Iranian military experts’ lives.

Witnesses described hearing several consecutive explosions, causing distress among children at a nearby school. Ambulances swiftly responded to the scene.

The incident adds to the complex geopolitical dynamics in the region, and international observers will be monitoring for further developments and responses from relevant parties.
