London Police Fatally Shoot Man Armed with Crossbow during Property Incident

In the early hours of Tuesday, London police fatally shot a man attempting to enter a property armed with a crossbow, according to a statement from the Metropolitan Police. The incident unfolded at around 4.55 a.m. local time in Bywater Place, southeast London, following reports from occupants about the man’s attempt to force his way into the premises, brandishing weapons including a crossbow.

The man, believed to be in his 30s, was reportedly threatening harm to residents inside the address. Despite police and paramedics providing first aid, the man succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Two individuals at the address sustained minor injuries during the incident.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has initiated an independent investigation into the shooting, with the Metropolitan Police Directorate of Professional Standards informed, as stated in the police release. Detective Chief Superintendent Seb Adjei-Addoh, responsible for policing in Southwark where the incident occurred, expressed his thoughts for those affected by the situation. The circumstances surrounding the shooting are under scrutiny as authorities seek to understand the events leading to the use of lethal force.

In his words, the IOPC said ‘“I understand the local community will be concerned at the events that have taken place this morning,” said Adjei-Addoh.’
