Eiffel Tower Staff Strike Ends, Site to Reopen Sunday

The strike by Eiffel Tower staff has concluded, and the iconic Parisian landmark is set to reopen on Sunday, according to a statement from the Societe d’Exploitation de la Tour Eiffel (SETE), the company managing the site. The strike, which began on February 19, was a protest against the management of the Eiffel Tower.

SETE, owned by Paris City Hall, confirmed that an end-of-strike agreement has been reached with trade unions. The agreement involves regular reviews of the company’s business model, maintenance costs, and sales through a collaborative body meeting every six months.

SETE stated that visitors who purchased tickets between February 19-24 would receive refunds.

The strike occurred amid preparations for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, where the Eiffel Tower’s metal will be featured in the winners’ medals.

Unions had expressed concerns over the perceived underestimation of maintenance and repair costs by Paris City Hall, which holds a 99% ownership stake in SETE.
