Tom Edet, a policeman attached to the Ihiagwa Division in Nekede, Imo State, has been arrested for alleged extortion.
The suspect was said to have collected N120,000 from an undercover official of Behind Bars Initiative.
It was gathered that the police inspector and his colleagues had arrested a young man who travelled from Delta to Imo State, and refused to release him for days, over his inability to pay N400k bribe.
His family then contacted Behind Bars Initiative and the IGP Xsquad was also notified. The officers were baited with a marked N120,000 bribe.
Edet was eventually nabbed, while his accomplices, Bassey and Charity, are currently on the run.
