Federal High Court Orders Arrest of Rural Electrification Agency Officials for Skippi by Ali: 06-06-2024, 09:27 PM |
On Thursday, Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja issued an arrest warrant for three officials of Nigeria’s Rural Electrification Agency. Emmanuel Titus, Umar Karaye, and Henrietta Okojie were ordered to be arrested after failing to appear in court for their scheduled arraignment.
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has charged the trio with four counts of criminal conduct related to the theft of public funds designated for providing electricity to rural communities across the nation. During the proceedings, Osuobeni Akponimisingha, the prosecution counsel and Assistant Chief Legal Officer at the ICPC, informed the judge that the defendants had been served with copies of the charges and were aware of the court date but chose not to attend. The defendants were reportedly out on administrative bail. Akponimisingha requested the court to issue a bench warrant for their arrests, citing Sections 114, 124, and 184 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act. He emphasized that the defendants had deliberately avoided the proceedings "by their own volition." |
