The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Yusuf Maitama Sule University in Kano has started a two-week warning strike. This decision follows ongoing complaints about insufficient funding for the institution.
As reported by Legit.ng, in a statement by ASUU leaders, Mansur Sa'id (Chairperson) and Yusuf Gwarzo (Secretary), the union expressed frustration over the state government's lack of response to their attempts to negotiate and address the funding issues. Despite repeated efforts, the government has not engaged in any meaningful dialogue with the union. ASUU previously raised concerns about the university's poor funding in November. The union criticized the state government for spending billions of naira on scholarships for students studying abroad while neglecting local institutions like Yusuf Maitama Sule University.
The decision to strike was made during an ASUU National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Wednesday, May 29. The union emphasized three main demands: improving staff working conditions, ensuring adequate funding, and safeguarding the university's autonomy and academic freedom.
This strike is a significant move by ASUU to draw attention to the pressing issues facing the university and to push for the necessary changes from the state government.

A 26-year-old Thai man, popularly known as AK, is in extreme pain and agony after discovering that his newly wedded wife is actually a man. This revelation came just twelve days into their marriage, leaving AK in disbelief and emotional turmoil.
According to reports, AK and his supposed wife, Adinda, met online and conversed for some time before deciding to take their relationship to the next level by getting married.
They met several times before the wedding, but AK was unaware that Adinda was a man. Adinda consistently wore traditional Thai attire, which covered his entire body, making it difficult for AK to discern his true gender.
After their wedding, which took place at AK's residence, Adinda continually refused AK's advances for intimacy, often citing menstrual cramps or illness as excuses. This persistent refusal raised AK's suspicions, prompting him to investigate further. Eventually, AK discovered that the person he married was a man, leaving him utterly devastated.
Eyewitnesses report that Adinda had been cross-dressing for over three years and had perfected his female appearance. Upon AK's discovery, the police were involved, and Adinda was apprehended for further interrogation.
This shocking incident has garnered widespread attention and sympathy for AK, who spent lavishly on the marriage, only to be deceived.

David Umahi, the Minister of Works, has stated that most of the people he helped to power in the 2023 general elections now ignores him.
Speaking to journalists in Abakaliki on Thursday, Mr Umahi stated that even National Assembly members he helped to elect were among those who now shun him, adding that they were not troubled by their actions.
“Only Chief Onyekachi Nwebonyi will openly acknowledge that I am his father and boss,” said Mr Umahi. “The others feel that by doing so, the state governor, my successor, will be angry with them.”
“The governor cannot do that because he too openly acknowledges that I was instrumental to his emergence,” he added.
He said the development stopped him from having political godsons and instead opted for political friends, News360 Nigeria gathered.
“I will fight anybody who makes trouble with the governor because he deserves our respect.
“I have done my bit, have left the stage and have to respect myself,” he said.
Mr Umahi said there were usually crises between predecessors and successors, adding that “I am, however, not available for such because I have been so blessed in life by God.
“There are always pathways to successes and failures, and when you dig for someone to fail, you have already failed.”
The minister vowed to stick with Governor Francis Nwifuru for eight years and thanked God for giving the governor the grace to unite all leaders of the state.
“The issue of the leaders staying together for long is not our business but I have known the governor for 16 years and will continue to support him.
“I will never regret making him my successor as he, alongside few others, stood with me during the hard decision of defecting to the APC,” he said.
The minister said it was rare to hand over to a successor and still be continually honoured by him, stating, “That is the handwork of God, and I am grateful to him and the governor.”

Quote:The Economic and Financial Crime Commission is probing a former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwakwanso, over alleged N2.5bn pension fraud, The PUNCH has learnt.
Our correspondent gathered that Kwakwanso was invited and had been grilled by EFCC interrogators over the development.
A source in the anti-graft agency familiar with the matter but had no authourisation to speak, said, “The commission invited Kwakwanso over the alleged N2.5bn Kano pension funds. We have grilled Kwakwanso over the matter, and he has provided some details to interrogators.”
Another source noted, “Former Kano governor, Kwakwanso has been invited by the commission . He has been grilled, and we’re continuing with our investigation.” When contacted over the development, the spokesperson for the EFCC, Dele Oyewale declined comment.
The PUNCH had reported in March 2023 that the Abuja Zonal Command of the EFCC handed over documents of properties and 324 houses recovered for the Kano State pensioners to them. The EFCC spokesman said the handover of the houses was occasioned by a final forfeiture order granted by Justice I.E. Ekwo of the Federal High Court sitting Abuja.
He added that the forfeiture was a result of successful investigations carried out by the EFCC over a N4.1bn Pension Trust Fund contributed by the pensioners to own houses, which was fraudulently denied them by two successive administrations in Kano State.
Oyewale said, “The commission investigated a petition by Concerned Kano State Workers and Pensioners of alleged misappropriation of pension funds in the state. Findings by the EFCC showed that the state government entered into a tripartite agreement with the Kano State Pension Trust Fund to build housing estates for an aggregate sum of N41bn, out of which the Pension Trust Fund was to contribute N4.1bn.“However, the contribution of the pensioners was used to build the houses in three estates located in Sheikh Ja’afar Mahmud Adam Bandirawo city, Sheikh Nasiru Kabara (Amana) city and Sheikh Khalifa Ishaq Rabiu city, all in Kano State and two former governors of the state fraudulently discounted and sold the houses to their cronies and associates, leaving the pension trustees with low budget and uncompleted houses.
“The EFCC stepped in and upon completion of investigation, filed for and acquired a final forfeiture order of the 324 properties to the Kano State Pension Fund Trustees. “While handing over the documents of the 324 properties worth N4.1bn to the pensioners on Monday, March18, 2024, the Abuja Zonal Commander of the EFCC, Assistant Commander of the EFCC, Adeniyi Adebayo, assured that the EFCC would continue to do its best to rid the nation of fraudulent practices.“Representatives of the Kano State Pension Board, Alhaji Hassan Muhammed Aminu, Kubra Ahmad Bichi and Salisu Yakubu Abubakar, who received the documents on behalf of the workers and pensioners, expressed delight and joy with the EFCC for assisting them in recovering their houses.”
The EFCC probe of Kwankwaso comes amid political tension between the ruling New Nigeria People’s Party he leads in Kano and the All Progressives Congress led by the immediate-past governor, Abdullahi Ganduje. Last week, the state Assembly loyal to Kwankwanso’s political godson and incumbent governor, Abba Yusuf, reversed the splitting of the Kano emirate into five by Ganduje in 2020.
Yusuf restored a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Lamido Sanusi, who Ganduje dethroned as the Emir of Kano during his administration in 2020.
