NANS Drums Support for NLC, Orders FG to Accept Labour Union Minimum Wage Demands by Ali: 06-02-2024, 01:36 PM |
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has thrown its weight behind the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in their call for a higher national minimum wage.
On Friday, the NLC announced an indefinite nationwide strike set to commence on Monday, June 3, 2024, in response to the Federal Government’s refusal to raise the proposed minimum wage above N60,000. NLC President Joe Ajaero explained that the strike is a result of failed negotiations between the government and organized labour. Despite the government’s final offer of N60,000, recently increased from an initial N57,000, the unions have deemed the proposal insufficient. In a statement on Sunday, NANS President Pedro Obi urged the government to respond promptly and positively to the legitimate demands of Nigerian workers. Do you believe the government should meet the NLC's demands for a higher minimum wage? Share your thoughts below! |
